First, before we start, you will need to download three applications. •petousb at gocoding.com grubinst and grub4dos at sourceforge.net Once these applications are downloaded, you will need to format your drive using petousb. Making sure that your drive is plugged in, run the petousb executable. First select the drive, then Enable Disk Format, Quick Format, and Force Volume Dismount and click start. Now, if you are using a drive over 2 GB and receive an error about dismounting, it's not an issue, rather than using petousb, right click on a My Computer shortcut, then click Manage. On the left side is a list of tools provided, expand Storage Management, and then click on Disk Management. Now click on the drive you wish to format, and then right click it and click format, and format the drive FAT32. Next run grubinst_gui. Select the disk option and pick your USB drive. Be sure to select the correct drive number, because it is possible to grub your OS harddrive with this tool... which would be a pretty big issue. If you're not sure which drive number the USB drive is, you can find that out by using Windows Disk Manager. Once you are positive the correct drive is selected, click install. Exercise caution, though, since using these commands blindly may be dangerous to your system's health! Note that the above warnings also apply, though to a lesser extent, to Slackware's pkgtool installation utility. All "automatic" software installations require caution. The martian and alien programs allow conversion between the rpm, deb, Stampede slp, and tar.gz package formats. This makes these packages accessible to all Linux distributions. Carefully read the man pages for the rpm and dpkg commands, and refer to the RPM HOWTO, tfug's Quick Guide to Red Hat's Package Manager , and The Debian Package Management Tools for more detailed information. 4.2.
