I arrived at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden after a short walk around eight thirty and there were just a few fans. Numbers grew over the morning. By twelve we knew the score. No barriers, no red carpet and the paps inside in the warm. Could it get much worse for fans? No matter, the stars soon began to arrive and the hubbub began. Plenty of stars were happy to take the time out to autograph, chat and pose with fans who called their name. The weather and umbrellas added a challenge though. I missed a few on the way in so I lunched and returned to catch them exiting in the gathering gloom. Celebs spotted: Lenny Henry Dawn French Vanessa Redgrave Franco Nero Kenneth Cranham Sir Ian mckellen Ruth Wilson Sir Donald Sinden Lindsey Duncan Sian Phillips Neil Pearson Boris Johnson, Mayor of London Patrick Stewart mckenzie Crook Tim Pigott-Smith Zoe Wanamaker Frances Barber Benedict Cumberbatch Nick Knowles Hayley Atwell Miriam Margolyes Henry Goodman Sir Peter Hall Richard Wilson Samuel West As usual, please let me know of omissions, errors and comments. I was a bit late though and could only get second row. It was a tiny fan area and as a star studded cast was expected, there was plenty of competition for spots. My trusty stool solved the heads in the way problem. Plenty of star talent was on show from several generations of UK theatre folk. Stars aged in their twenties and stars in their seventies were all happy to interact with the fans and photographers waiting at the gate. There werent many requests for two heads shots but plenty for autographs. Jude Law created the biggest stir, making it hard for him to get to his car after the event. Kenneth Branagh, Josh Hartnett and David Tennant sparked a crush too, theyre currently very popular with fans and were happy to sign and pose. Stars spotted: Richard Wilson Donald Sinden Gawn Granger Jude Law Charles Dance Michael Grandage Josh Hartnett Maureen Lipman Kenneth Branagh Kevin mcnally Felicity Kendall Ella Smith David Tennant Sadie Frost Sir Derek Jacobi Jessica Hynes Adrian Lester Greg Wise David Furnish Kenneth Cranham As usual, please let me know of omissions, errors and comments. By December 2007 it was known that those behind the proposed academy school in Wembley, London, was charity Absolute Return for Kids (Ark). A charity sounds nice and not as bad as a private corporation dictating your children's education, right? Well, Ark is run by multimillionaire French/Swiss financier Arpad (Arki) Busson, a devout Catholic. Busson is more famously known for having two children out of wedlock with divorced supermodel Ele macpherson, then he left her only to be spotted with Uma Thurman. Here the Wembley teachers, frustrated at the lack of dialogue over the Wembley Academy, invaded the London Evening Standard newspaper's seminar, "Should The City Give More To Good Causes" to confront Arki Busson. |
